They're creepy and they're croupy...

They're altogether goopy...

Yes, that's Ryan and Kaylie I'm talking about folks. We have croup in the house. It started with Kaylie and now it is on to Ryan. Recognizable by the fever and barking cough that goes with it. Lots of tissues being used. Lots of Tylenol and Motrin. Humidifiers. Ryan is very phlegmy but doesn't quite have the barking cough (yet!) so maybe not croup for him, but a bad cold nonetheless. This makes for some pretty grumpy kids and one worn out mommy. To top it off I wasn't feeling too hot either but I muddled through. Hope we get through this fast!

Week In Review

So we have had a house of sick kids this week. Ryan went to the doctor Wednesday with an ear infection and fever. He's on antibiotics and doing much better. Kaylie started running a fever Friday night and all day Saturday. It finally broke Saturday night. Despite the fever, she still acted normal--although on the quiet side.

We did drag her to the birthday party of her cousin, Rachel. It is Rachel's 3rd birthday--unlike the card I mistakenly picked out that had a 2 on it. Hey, it had a princess on it and that's what I was going for. She'll forgive me.
Playing with the playhouse and chalk eggs.

Lucky Rachel got this new car and took them for a (scary) ride. She needs some practice driving. LOL

I'm Back Up!

Well how's this week going? Let's see.

We were supposed to have a busy weekend doing an egg hunt, seeing the Easter Bunny and going to my nephew's 6th birthday party. All of that was canceled due to us being sick. Luckily (not for him) but my nephew was sick as well and his party had to be postponed so we do get to go to that this coming weekend. Bob picked up some slack around here while I was down and I am grateful.

Since Monday I am feeling back to normal, BUT now I am sporting my first ever black eye compliments of my daughter. Kaylie was just horsing around on the couch and did a free fall backwards on what I think she thought was a pile of pillows. Well, instead it was my cheekbone. It hurt pretty bad and I actually heard a crack when she hit me. I was scared to look in the mirror fearing the skin on my cheekbone had broken open. (This happened to me in second grade and I needed stitches after a collision with another classmate so I am always brought back to that moment. ) Anyway, no broken skin...just a bruise. I did cry and double over in pain and no one really cared.

I'm still wiping noses but Ryan & Kaylie are getting better each day.
We met with Early Intervention and came up with a plan and goals for development. I should be hearing from the therapist any day now. I can't wait to get that rolling. Although, I still wonder what they will do that I can't or haven't been doing. I'm a little skeptical. Maybe it's the teacher in me.

We played outside today and took a ride to the outlets to get new shoes. I'm thankful for this warmer weather and the daffodils I'll be cutting soon.
Have you ever watched a toddler try to jump and they just can't quite do it? It's the funniest thing and it will surely lift your spirits. Ryan & Kaylie have been attempting to do this daily. One day they may get some air, but for now I will secretly enjoy the show. Here's Ryan trying to jump outside. The pictures of course don't do it any justice. They must have tired from all the jumping and dancing they were doing. Ryan laid down first and then Kaylie copied.

We tried painting with water for the first time Thursday. They did well although I have dubbed this activity, "Drink water from paintbrush time."
I was able to get my hair cut.

They received an early gift from the Easter Bunny--a new kitchen. It kept them busy while Mommy was down. They seem to like it and the box too!

Mom Down, Mom Down!!

Sorry it's been awhile...

You know in those military movies when one of the soldiers gets injured and everyone yells, "Man down!, Man down!"? Well last night, I was saying, "Mom, down!" I had the worst sore throat I have ever had, chills and overall feeling of yucky that lasted into today. I just needed to get to bed. I woke up at 2 o'clock in the morning thinking I might need to go to the ER. My throat felt like it only had an opening the size of a pea. (I even got a flashlight to shine down my throat while looking in the mirror!) I took some Tylenol to help inflammation and sucked on a Chloraseptic lozenge. I wouldn't have won any Mom of the Year awards today, being that I laid on the couch, floor, or bed with the kids and had them bring me books and the like. I even got out some toys that are supposed to be for Easter to keep them entertained. A lot of TV was watched, which really only entertains Ryan. Kaylie could care less if the TV came on at all during the day. I'm not proud but what are you going to do? At present I feel a bit better but the sore throat and yuckiness feeling is still there but not as strong.

Some happenings this week:
We took our weekly trip to the library. I've been taking them into the library by holding their hands. They are doing really well without the stroller. This is the only place I have tried it because the parking lot is not busy. Ryan climbs right into the minivan--Kaylie needs a boost. Although I did notice at Target the other day, they have carts where two kids can sit. I might test them out one day soon. We went to Home Depot last weekend and the kids got to ride in a two seater racecar cart. Pretty cool! They didn't want to get out. So for a cheap, thrilling outing check out your local Home Depot. :) (I have a picture but it's on Bob's cell phone and he is busily working at the moment to be bothered.)

Ryan has started another cold so we had to cancel two playdates this week. Not fun! He is showing interest in wanting to walk down the stairs so we have started practicing as much as we can without Kaylie wanting to have her turn. She's just too little. He also is starting to walk upright up them. Ryan has become even more interested in books which is a good thing. For awhile I definitely saw Kaylie being more interested. Must be the difference between boys and girls. Ryan is a climbing fool and has moments where he just tries to look around to see what trouble he can get into. I tell him that his horns have come out during these moments.

While Ryan has the physical down, Kaylie is a genius...might be biased but I witnessed it for myself! While I cook dinner I sometimes give her a sticker book to play with to keep her busy. You peel the stickers and then put them on designated pages. Well, I saw her busily peeling off some numbers and placing them on the floor. Went about cooking and looked back and she had actually found the right page for where the stickers go and placed the 4 and 5 where they should go! Amazing right?! This girl is recognizing letters and colors, making amazing connections, and yet barely utters 20 words. I just needed to gush. Go girl!

Poor Little Guy

I took Ryan to the doctor today. He has an ear infection and a bronchial infection. I feel so bad for him. This is his first illness requiring medicine, well I guess you can count the NICU staph infection as one too, but IN MY care. So he is on zithromax and I hope it does the trick. He was not himself this morning at all which prompted me to call the doctor. My poor little guy.

Under the Weather

The last two days have been rough in this house.

Thank goodness Grandma happened to come down on Sunday to watch them while I went shopping and had some me time. She ended up staying over and Bob & I went to dinner.
I woke up Monday with a splitting headache and knew I didn't feel quite right....well a few throw ups later I knew it was downhill. So Grandma stayed the day while I pretty much slept all day. Bob came home from work early with the same thing so we were both hit with the bug. The kind where you can't do anything but lay down. This morning Ryan & Kaylie woke up and vomited a few times all over the place. This was a first for them. After their nap, they seemed to be fine the rest of the day eating solids and drinking Pedialyte. Thank goodness for Grandmas is all I can say!
