Two Things

First, I signed up for the March for Babies annual fundraiser sponsored by the March of Dimes. They are an organization fighting to find ways to ensure all babies are born healthy. It's something that obviously hits close to home being that Ryan & Kaylie were born so prematurely. Last year I just wasn't able to do the walk, but this year I plan to take part. It's at the end of April and I am looking forward to it. If you would like to help me reach my fundraising goal (& hopefully go beyond), feel free to click to donate. I appreciate any donations. Thank you.

Second, my MIL at Raising Eden, recently gave me a blogging award called The Butterfly Award. It's given to people who's blogs you enjoy reading. Although I have many blogs I like to read, I bestow this award to the following blogs:

1. Linda at Twice the Love
4. Christa at Dynamic Duo

Aquarium Trip

We met up with a few friends at the aquarium today. Ryan & Kaylie really enjoyed seeing the fish, penguins, and seals among other animals. I was hesitant at first about going, but there was going to be 5 adults for 6 kids (all under 20 months) so I felt better knowing there were extra hands. They did great overall, but Ryan was a little unruly. He just wants to run and explore like nobody's business, but he has no idea of the dangers that lurk and that Mommy can't be in two places at once! Needless to say there were a few tantrums thrown. Kaylie was calm and enjoyed looking at everything. These are the only pictures I took. It was all a blur after letting them out of the stroller.

I used their backpack harnesses for the first time. They love to wear the backpacks. Ryan hates the "leash" part!! I will say that they make them fall down quite a bit, but I didn't lose anyone and I guess that is the point. Here they are in the backpack (with leash unattached). I bought them at Toys R Us in case anyone is wondering.

Here's an Idea

Is your beach cabana collecting dust? Why not open it up inside and let the fun begin! Ryan & Kaylie had a great time playing peek a boo with each other and climbing in and out of the hut chasing each other. I've made the observation that my kids really like to wear hats inside!

Pics of the Week

We've had some indoor fun dressing up in sunglasses, monkey slippers, and winter hats. Don't you do this every day?

Made a cool fort....

And we were able to have some OUTDOOR fun too!!!! We were lucky enough to get a 65 degree day here so we played on the deck for an hour and a half. That wasn't long enough for Ryan who threw the biggest tantrum upon going in. I think he would live outside if he could.

They've started using booster seats and do really well. Still trying to get the hang of utensils.

It's My Blogiversary!!

Yep, that's right. I have been officially blogging for one year! It all started here. I didn't think I would keep up with it, but I did. I think I find it easier to do than writing in a baby book for some reason.

Oh yeah you might be thinking to yourself, "Who starts a blog on Valentine's Day?" I guess that's what happens when you have twin infants, no family/babysitters around and Valentine's Day falls during the week. I went back and read my first post and this year (we are grilling again), but it will be without the kids!! Funny, how your mode of thinking changes.

I hope you all have enjoyed our journey so far. CHEERS!

And Happy Valentine's Day to all!

My PSA To All Moms

Ok so yesterday I got locked out of the house with the kids inside! I went out to start the car through the door leading to the garage. I still don't know what possessed me to do this. It wasn't that cold of a day. I only warmed the car up on the coldest of cold days in the winter, but for whatever reason I did it. Then I saw that Bob hadn't put the garbage out so I had to quickly put that out. I went to go back in and it was locked! Now I still do not know if the kids happened to have turned the lock (they were right there at the door waiting for me) or if the POS doorknob we have on the door got stuck. Either way I was locked out. Luckily, I am a "genius" and had a spare key in the garage and was able to get in without any problem. I was so ready to bust the door in though.

So my public service announcement of the day is to make sure you keep a spare key somewhere outside.

Our Week in Review

I took Ryan for his follow-up ear check and all was clear. We figured as much since he is back to normal. He is eating us out of house and home this week. Maybe a growth spurt is happening...who knows. For the past 5 days, he also has been waking up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. He doesn't cry at all. He just sits there babbling away for about 40 minutes!! I can only hope this means he is going to be talking soon, but I want my peaceful uninterrupted nights back!

This week we did the story time again at the library, but I didn't use the stroller this time. I took Kaylie out of her carseat and then put her on the floor of the minivan while I unbuckled Ryan. Then I had Ryan in my arms and scooped up Kaylie in the other. I carried them into the library like that. Quite a workout. While at storytime, Ryan didn't sit still for a second and started throwing all the toys they play with after the books and songs. This seems to be the stage they are in now because they both throw toys and crack up at it like it's the funniest thing they have ever seen. Mommy doesn't think it's so funny especially in public!!! Kaylie was a bit better behaved but she did get in on the throwing bit. After storytime, I got them bundled up again and we walked back to the car. I decided that letting them walk with me holding their hands was the way to go. Well Ryan's version of walking is not mine, nor Kaylie's. While I have a death grip on both hands, Ryan is pulling us and I am basically dragging Kaylie behind. The poor girl fell down twice and got a skinned knee (which I didn't know until later)! Not fun. So I open the door (thank goodness for push button automatic door openers) and put Kaylie in the van and then buckled Ryan in. Well, he kicks Kaylie in the head and then she starts crying. It was quite a scene. I don't know how else to get them in the car...any ideas? Maybe it will just get better with practice and maybe they will start to listen one of these days.

I got out for dinner with a friend this week. Other than other stuff I have posted this week, not too much going on.

The Dr.'s Are In!

I bought the kids doctor kits the other day. Kaylie got into it a bit more than Ryan but I would say they both liked them. We had fun and I'm sure with time they will understand what the stuff is for.

Snow Day!

We finally got some snow around here worth going out in. While northern NJ has gotten a bunch of snow, we seem to have missed out on the bulk of the storms that have come through this winter. It was still only about 3-4 inches but it provided some fun for the kids. They didn't want to come back in.

Rice Box

Well, I tried this little gem of an idea out. Um, I'm not going to lie and say it was neat in any way shape or form. So if you like neat activities, turn away now! I worked in a daycare that had an actual rice table and I do not recall it ever being a messy activity--weird. I will say that the kids liked to feel, taste and scoop the rice but they really liked throwing rice all over! I thought the blanket would catch most of the rice (which it did) but I did not anticipate them throwing the rice! I don't have anything to combat that. I don't recommend doing this everyday, unless it's a good day to vacuum. It was a good sensory experience for them though and we'll do it again.

Yep, they will try to eat it.
